The aim of Blackjack is to beat the dealer (house). You are dealt with two cards face up, and the dealer is dealt 1 card face up and one down. There is no community cards in the game of blackjack. The object of the card game is to get as close to 21 (the best score) without going above this, 22 or more and you go bust and loose.
21 with a 10 (either a 10, Jack, Queen, King) and an Ace (worth 11) is the perfect score and is blackjack, it beats all other scores including 21 which is not a blackjack, and only splits with a dealer blackjack. When you beat the dealer you will be paid at evens, however if you win with blackjack you will get an enhanced pay-out of 6/4.
There is a strategy chart below which we have produced, following this strategy will give you the best results in the long term, however the house will always have an edge. Part of this is edge is that the player has to go first, and you can potentially go bust before the dealer plays. If you bust and the dealer busts you still lose! Normally the dealer has to stick at 17 or more. There is usually some variations when playing online, like having the ability to surrender your hand.
All cards have their face value; 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. Jack, Queen, King are worth 10 points. Ace is worth 1 or 11 points. Generally speaking an Ace is an extremely powerful card to hold, this is due to its ability to pay you out on blackjack, and having the ability to switch between 11 points and 1 point to prevent you from going bust. The strategy guide to the sides shows the optimal betting strategy and is split between having been dealt; a hard, soft (when holding an ace) and paired hands.
